At Glastonbury 2024, Paul Heaton of The Housemartins welcomed Rianne Downey to the Pyramid Stage for his set. The singer later thanked Heaton on Twitter for the opportunity to perform with him and shared a clip of their rendition of ‘Rotterdam’ by The Beautiful South. Heaton also reunited with former Housemartins bandmate Norman Cook, aka Fatboy Slim, for a performance of their hit song ‘Happy Hour’. The Housemartins had previously played at Glastonbury in 1986.
The Housemartins formed in 1983 as a busking duo before Cook joined as the bassist. The band went on to disband in 1988, with each member pursuing individual projects. Heaton shared his excitement at the band’s 1986 Glastonbury performance, which he described as “mind-blowing”. Following Downey’s performance at the festival, she is set to be a special guest for Heaton’s upcoming album, ‘The Mighty Several’, produced by Ian Broudie.
In addition to the festival appearance, Heaton will embark on a UK tour in 2024. Dates include stops in Bridlington, Leeds, Glasgow, Brighton, Wolverhampton, Liverpool, Nottingham, Newcastle, and London. Visit Ticketmaster for tickets.
