Wath upon Dearne: Woman, 55, injured in street shooting

A woman, aged 55, was shot and injured in a South Yorkshire street, according to local police. The incident took place late on Friday evening near High Street in Wath upon Dearne, Rotherham. Police have said that a group of men are believed to have been outside a property when the shot was fired.  It has been suggested that the discharge appeared to have come from a gun.  The woman was taken to hospital where she is being treated, it is believed her injuries are not life-threatening. 

South Yorkshire Police said that they have discovered evidence consistent with the use of a firearm at the scene. They have not yet made any arrests and have appealed for anyone with information about the incident to come forward to assist with their investigation. The street has been cordoned off and is currently under a forensic examination.

According to local reports, it is believed that there have been other incidents involving firearms in the same area, including a shooting incident in May. The incident has left many residents feeling concerned and unsafe, and many are calling on the authorities to take more action to prevent incidents like this from happening. It is unclear whether or not the victim was the intended target of the shooting or if the attack was random in nature
