At the Tons of Rock festival in Oslo, Metallica invited Diamond Head lead guitarist Brian Tatler to join them on stage for a live performance of ‘Am I Evil?’ The 1980 hit from Diamond Head served as the B-side to Metallica’s track ‘Creeping Death’ in 1984. Tatler’s influence can be heard on Metallica’s early works, especially their 1983 debut ‘Kill ‘Em All’.
Last night’s performance marked the first time Metallica played ‘Am I Evil?’ live during their current M72 Tour. The band’s cover of the song helped to make it Diamond Head’s most recognizable and popular tune. Tatler has previously called it the musical achievement he is “most proud of.”
Metallica frontman James Hetfield announced Tatler’s arrival on stage before declaring it “Flying V time,” referring to Tatler’s guitar of choice. The performance was well-received by fans and can be seen on the band’s official YouTube channel.
