Eglinton: Boy, 14, dies in hospital after quad bike crash

Isaac Roxborough, a 14-year-old boy from Burnfoot, Dungiven, has died in hospital following a serious quad bike accident in Eglinton, County Londonderry on Tuesday. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) stated that he was involved in a single-vehicle collision on the Ballygudden Road, and passed away from his injuries on Wednesday. An investigation has been launched into the cause of the crash. Police are urging anyone who saw the red Honda quad on the Ballygudden Road, before 11:30 BST on Tuesday, to contact them.

Isaac was a player for Newtowne Youths football club for several years, participating in seven, nine, and 11-a-side games, and also part of the Moneydig Young Conquerors Flute Band. Tributes have been paid to Isaac by both organisations. Newtowne Youths stated that they are deeply saddened by his passing and pass on their condolences to his loved ones, while the Moneydig Young Conquerors Flute Band said that Isaac will “be fondly remembered by everyone associated with the band.”

An initial aid was reportedly provided by the staff near the Eglinton Medical Centre when the incident occurred. The accident happened on a bend in the roadway while Isaac was descending the hill on the quad-bike. Broken hedges along the narrow rural road, situated beside the village’s Main Street, demonstrate evidence of where the accident happened. According to BBC News NI reporter Keiron Tourish, the village of Eglinton is presently experiencing palpable sentiments of shock and grief.

The PSNI offered condolences to the friends and family of Isaac, stating that “our thoughts are very much with them at this incredibly sad time, Isaac was just 14 years old.”
