The grand opening of Glastonbury Festival 2024 featuring its first-ever drone show has concluded. Last night, the festival opened with the drone show that replaced the usual fireworks display and marked the beginning of the festival at Worthy Farm. The drone show presented 576 drones, which hovered above the festival ground and transformed into varying shapes, including the festival’s old logo, a phoenix, the iconic Pyramid Stage, and a peace sign.
Festivalgoers usually gather around the legendary hill by the park stage to witness the light show of the usual fireworks display at around 11 pm on the opening day of Glastonbury for early arrivals. The drone show is among the festival’s new additions introduced this year.
New additions at Glastonbury 2024 also include the Tree Stage at the Woodsies area. The area is described as a playground for sound, where artists can indulge in audio-visual spectacles. It seeks to integrate the whole space into a new listening experience, quite literally in the trees. The immersive event comes alive at night when the main stage closes, offering fresh new sounds and textures from a range of electronic musicians.
The festival brings together a host of music icons, including headliners Dua Lipa, Coldplay, and SZA, alongside Shania Twain’s legends slot, LCD Soundsystem, PJ Harvey, Little Simz, Burna Boy, Idles, Anne-Marie, Disclosure, Camila Cabello, The Last Dinner Party, Avril Lavigne, The National, Jessie Ware, Jungle, Justice, Masego, Sugababes, and many others.
