The latest Superman movie, simply titled “Superman,” has received mixed reviews from fans since the release of early images of actor David Corenswet in the iconic red and blue suit. The film, which is set to be launched in July 2025, has been much-awaited as the first major release for the recent revival of the DC Universe. The movie is directed by James Gunn and stars Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner.
Corenswet’s Superman costume has divided fans, with many expressing disappointment in the suit design. A fan on social media stated their opinion, “I love & support David Corenswet’s casting as the Superman but I am super disappointed in the suit. This is such a massive downgrade from Henry Cavill’s Superman. What a missed opportunity. Hoping they fix this in post.”
Other fans also criticized the flatness of the Corenswet suit despite the added lines. Some suggested that it took away from the dimensionality of the suit that Cavill’s had in previous movies. Fans also noted that despite a few improvements such as the trunks and the belt, Corenswet’s suit was an overall downgrade in comparison.
Peter Safran, one of the producers of the film, revealed in January last year that the film’s plot would center on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. Gunn confirmed in December 2022 that Henry Cavill would not return to the role of Superman in the film, as the story is set in an earlier part of Superman’s life.
Fans eagerly await the film’s release to see how Corenswet’s Superman measures up to previous iterations and to experience the new vision James Gunn and his team have for the DC Universe
