The family of a 19-year-old British teen, Jay Slater, who went missing while attending a techno festival in Tenerife, has made a fresh appeal to the public for help. Slater went to the NRG festival in Playa de las Americas on June 16 before heading to the village of Masca with two people he met at the event. While Slater’s friends he had been holidaying with have not seen him since, he spoke to one of them on the phone the following day and said he was lost, in need of water, and only had a 1% charge on his phone.

During the short phone call, Slater explained that he had missed a bus trying to get back to his holiday accommodation, so he attempted the 11-hour journey on foot. Since his disappearance, urgent searches have been ongoing in the vast area involving Civil Guard officers, firefighters, and mountain rescuers.

Recently, Slater’s parents shared a blurry new image that appears to show a male walking past a church in the village around 6 pm on Monday. This is about ten hours after he was last reportedly heard from. Speaking from the village of Santiago del Teide, Slater’s father, Warren, stated: “You think, has somebody got him? Because no matter if you were drunk or whatever, you don’t go off that road up there. It doesn’t make sense. Nobody would walk off that road. Why would he have gone uphill?”

Outbuildings close to where Slater’s phone last picked up a signal are also the current focus of a police search in Tenerife. Slater’s mother, Debbie Duncan, expressed her thanks to those who had donated more than £30,000 to a GoFundMe page. She added: “We’re not [coping]. I’m not coping very well at all. I’ve not slept, I’m exhausted. It’s been awful. I can’t give up on him, I just can’t.” The family remains hopeful that they will be reunited with Slater and are urging anyone with information to come forward.

The situation of Slater’s disappearance has left friends and family worried about his whereabouts. The fact that he was last seen walking up a dangerous mountain has raised concerns. Despite the search by local authorities and concerned individuals, he has still not been located. The recent blurry image that appears to show a male has given a fresh sense of hope to Slater’s family. They remain optimistic that the more people who see this footage, the better chance they may have of locating their son. The family is holding on to hope that Slater is still alive and are urging anyone with information to come forward as soon as possible
