Julio Foolio, a rapper from Florida whose real name is Charles Jones, was fatally shot in Tampa during an ambush in a car park. The incident occurred in the early hours of June 23, Sunday, only a day after his 26th birthday. His lawyer Lewis Fusco confirmed that the rapper was killed, but also stated that three other victims sustained injuries and are currently stable. NBC News reported on the matter.

Before his death, Jones shared an Instagram story where he was shown celebrating his birthday with his fans and friends in a pool party held in an Airbnb. However, he later posted on the social media platform that the police had shut down the party and enforced eviction. He wrote, “God thank you for allowing me to see another year and to celebrate another birthday. I appreciate all the birthday wishes so far.”

Fusco commented that Jones came to Tampa to celebrate his birthday over the weekend but later moved from Airbnb to the Holiday Inn after breaching the occupancy limit. The lawyer is said to have further explained, “He subsequently relocated to the Holiday Inn, where he was involved in an incident in the hotel parking lot and reportedly ambushed.” The police have not yet made any arrests, but surveillance footage from the hotel is being studied.

In an Instagram post made in April where he announced his latest album release, ‘Resurrection,’ Jones stated that he had already survived “MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS ON MY LIFE.” The rapper had survived a previous attempt in 2021, where he was grazed by a bullet while he was in his recording studio in Jacksonville. Jones’ cousin and three teenagers at a birthday party honoring his brother were shot and killed in 2018, which was a gang-related incident.

Foolio has been gaining popularity and has attracted a considerable number of listeners on Spotify, where he gets almost a million streams each month. The rapper’s most-streamed track is Voo Doo
