Elton John documentary to premiere at Toronto Film Festival

Elton John’s journey through the highly successful Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour is set to be documented in a new film entitled “Elton John: Never Too Late,” which will see its premiere at the 2024 Toronto Film Festival. The tour began in 2018 and concluded in Stockholm last July, with over $900million in gross ticket sales, making it the highest-grossing concert tour of all time.

The documentary, directed by R.J. Cutler and David Furnish, John’s husband, will feature never-before-seen concert footage of the superstar over the past 50 years, as well as handwritten journals and present-day footage of him and his family. Some of the performance footage was filmed at his final US performance at the Dodger Stadium in November 2022, which was recorded by Disney+ and subsequently released on the streaming platform as “Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium.”

In September, the film will be shown at the festival, with a Disney+ release scheduled for a later date. John’s friend and co-writer, Bernie Taupin, confirmed in May that his 32nd studio album has been finished and recorded, and it will be released soon. Additionally, John authored a book about his farewell tour, which is set to be published in September.

To the crowd’s delight at his final show in Stockholm, John expressed his gratitude for his 50-year career and admitted how blessed he feels to have been able to share his music with the world. He also expressed gratitude to his fans, who purchased his singles, CDs, albums, cassettes and, most importantly, tickets to his shows, without whom he wouldn’t be where he is today
