Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson were due to start their joint-headline US tour with the “Outlaw Music Festival Tour” in Atlanta on June 21st, but Nelson will miss the opening three dates on medical grounds. 91-year-old Nelson has been “advised to rest for the next four days,” according to a statement on social media. However, he is expected to perform in the tour next week. In the meantime, Lukas Nelson and the Family Band, plus a few guests, will perform a special set including Willie’s classics and other songs.

The tour was announced in February and includes a total of 26 dates around the US and Canada until September. Robert Plant, John Mellencamp, Alison Krauss, Billy Strings, Brittney Spencer, and Celisse will also perform at certain shows.

During the year so far Willie Nelson has contributed to Beyoncé’s album ‘Cowboy Carter’ in March, appearing as a disc jockey on the fictitious station KNTRY Radio Texas on the track “Smoke Hour with Willie Nelson”. He also teamed up with Orville Peck in April for a cover of Ned Sublette’s “Cowboys Are Frequently Secretly Fond Of Each Other”. The song was previously recorded in 2006 by Nelson himself.

Recently, an announcement was made about the release of a cookbook featuring cannabis-cooking recipes from Willie Nelson and his wife. However, in 2019, due to health reasons, he stopped smoking marijuana, although he is reported to vape and eat edibles.

Despite being forced to rest for the next four days and missing the opening dates of his tour alongside Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson is expected to make a quick recovery and will participate in the Outlaw Music Festival tour next week
