Paris Olympics 2024: Katie Archibald to miss Games after freak garden accident

Katie Archibald, the British cyclist who took home two gold medals at the 2016 and 2020 Olympics, will no longer be competing at the Games in Paris next month. Archibald suffered a severe leg fracture and ligament damage after falling over a step in her garden.

In an Instagram post, Archibald revealed that she broke two bones in her leg and tore ligaments off the bone after dislocating her ankle. She underwent surgery to repair the damage and has since been resting at home.

Archibald was hoping to compete in three different cycling events at the Paris Olympics, including the team pursuit, madison, and omnium. Unfortunately, her injury will prevent her from participating, and Great Britain’s cycling squad will have one less member.

Archibald won Olympic gold in the women’s team pursuit event at the Rio 2016 Games and a silver medal in the same event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. She also took home a gold medal in the madison event.

In a statement, British Cycling expressed their sadness about Archibald’s injury and inability to compete in Paris. The organization is committed to providing Archibald with the best possible support during her recovery.

Archibald’s accident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of injuries and accidents. Despite the disappointment of missing out on the Olympics, Archibald is determined to recover fully and continue pursuing her passion for cycling
