Rebecca Lucy Taylor, otherwise known as Self Esteem, and South African musician Moonchild Sanelly have collaborated on a new single, titled “Big Man”. The song is a reflection on modern masculinity and gender roles. The duo sings about what they believe a good boyfriend should be like – one who is secure in himself and in his relationship, and who supports his partner’s success.
The single, which is accompanied by a music video, sees the two artists performing various household chores while wearing oversized suits. Taylor describes the video as an inverse of Queen’s “I Want To Break Free” music video.
Taylor recently revealed that she is close to completing the finishing touches on her next album, which will be her third. She described her forthcoming album as still being reflective of the hyper-emotional person she is, someone who fights injustice at every corner. However, she hopes that one day she will be able to write like Ed Sheeran about loving her partner.
Self Esteem has previously been nominated for a BRIT Award and the Mercury Prize. Sanelly is a musician, dancer and performer who is known for her unique mix of multiple genres, including gqom, jazz, and pop.
