Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who played Meadow Soprano in HBO’s The Sopranos, has revealed that James Gandolfini used to secretly donate to multiple sclerosis (MS) charities in her name. Speaking on the Life Is Short podcast, Sigler said she only found out about Gandolfini’s donations after he died. Sigler was diagnosed with the disease while making The Sopranos and Gandolfini was the first person she told on set. Reminiscing about that moment, Sigler said Gandolfini hugged her and said, “Your secret’s safe with me.”
Sigler has previously talked about Gandolfini’s methods as an actor, saying he used to publicly doubt himself and proclaim, “I f**king suck” on set during the making of the HBO classic. Sigler added that it was primarily a way to help his fellow actors. A documentary by Alex Gibney, titled Wise Guy: David Chase and The Sopranos, premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival to celebrate the show’s 25th anniversary. Sigler said at the event: “That set was home, these people were home, and they accepted you no matter what.”
The actress has also spoken out against healthy and seemingly perfect people taking the weight-loss drug Ozempic. Sigler said that she has seen her friends, who were beautiful, healthy, and perfect, abusing the drug and that it’s upsetting her. She also emphasized that she has seen and supports the positive effect the drug has had on people she knows who have “struggled with their weight for a very, very, very long time.”
Gandolfini sadly passed away in June 2013, aged 51, and his former colleagues and friends commemorated his passing on social media this month. Bruce Springsteen performed “I’ll See You in My Dreams” on the latest episode of From My Home To Yours on SiriusXM, which was dedicated to Gandolfini
