Jeff Mills, the Detroit techno innovator, has announced the release of his new album ‘The Eyewitness’. The album is set to release on July 5th via Axis Records. Mills has also revealed his new single ‘Those Who Worked Against Us (Vendetta Mix)’ alongside the album announcement. The announcement of his new album comes after his previous experimental project ‘The Trip – Enter The Black Hole’ in March.

Mills’ project delves into the themes of mental health, trauma and the need to protect one’s psyche from the harsh realities of the world. The album aims to provide an “antidote on how to protect our mental health condition,” according to Mills himself. The track ‘Those Who Worked Against Us (Vendetta Mix)’ begins with a frantic, Jimi Hendrix-inspired synth solo and reflects the same message as the album, acting as a “wake-up call or alarm that it might be time [again] to re-think ourselves, our world and the path we’re on towards the future”.

The album addresses trauma and its impact, as well as the consequences of having “no critical arrangement”. Mills believes that this mental radius creates boundaries, reinforces relationships, and impacts the way one envisions their position with everyone around them. He believes that everyone knows someone who has been or will be impacted by trauma.

The forthcoming album is a result of the aftermath of trauma and its impact on the psyche, a reflection on the world and the path we are on towards the future. The album is available for pre-save here. Mills had also previously featured as the face of Jill Sander’s Winter campaign last year and had starred in the brand’s short film too
