Amber Bain, known by her stage name The Japanese House, has released a new single titled ‘:)’, pronounced ‘Smiley Face’. This cheerful country-pop track talks about the happiness Bain feels in her current relationship. The song recalls the moment when she connected with her dating app match, who lived in Detroit. Bain shares that while she was in a recording session for someone else’s stuff, she felt a frenzy and could not help but let the song spill out of her.

After co-producing the track with George Daniel of Dirty Hit labelmates The 1975, Bain released the song with Daniel’s help. She previously toured with The 1975 on their ‘Still… At Their Very Best’ tour earlier in 2022. The Japanese House recently released her second album, ‘In The End It Always Does’. The album features lyrics that “are poised to pull you one way on the album”, according to a review by NME.

Bain is currently on a US tour, and is scheduled to perform at the Festival Republic stage at Reading and Leeds in August. When asked about the song’s inspiration, Bain shares, “Turns out I did buy the plane tickets, now we’re engaged.” Bain’s love story brings to focus the highs and lows of dating and relationships, and how a simple message sent on a dating app can lead to happily ever after.

‘:)’ is a song that shares hope and good memories, the perfect addition to anyone’s playlist. Fans can watch the music video for the track on YouTube
