An elderly man has been found dead in a house in Crossmaglen, County Armagh, after sustaining serious head injuries. Authorities have since launched a murder investigation. The man, who was in his 70s, was discovered deceased in the bathroom of a home on Annaghmare Road on the evening of Saturday, January 9th.
Police have since taken a 67-year-old man into custody on suspicion of murder. Enquiries are ongoing to determine what led to the victim’s death and authorities have yet to release any further information about the suspect.
Local residents have expressed shock and dismay at the news of the pensioner’s death. The town of Crossmaglen is primarily known for its proximity to the Irish border and has typically been a flashpoint for sectarian violence. However, the area has been relatively peaceful in recent years.
Officers have remained at the scene in order to conduct a forensic examination of the property. Authorities have yet to reveal whether or not they have identified any potential witnesses or if they have reason to believe the suspect acted alone
