Swedish singer Tove Lo and English DJ SG Lewis have collaborated for a new EP, titled ‘Heat’, inspired by their fans in the queer community. The four-track dance project was accompanied by interlinked music videos directed by David Wilson, who has previously worked with Lady Gaga and Christine And The Queens. The EP slaps from start to finish with each tune coating different pockets of a night out. Lo and Lewis had previously joined forces on ‘Pineapple Slice’ and ‘Call On Me’. More recently, they teamed with Nelly Furtado for the Canadian singer’s comeback single ‘Love Bites’.
The songs are mainly for the queer dance floor, a place which encompasses love, freedom and liberation with kindness. “In a straight club, there can be a kind of aggressive energy. But in a queer club or space, it feels like there’s more of a kindness and respect in general,” said Tove Lo. They are supporting the EP with a series of Club Heat pop-up gigs including a Glastonbury set on June 28.
The Heat video was shot at Electrowerkz, a London club that holds iconic queer and fetish nights. It was suggested by the incredible director David Wilson. “It’s one of those venues where you walk round and think: ‘If these walls could talk.’ We knew we wanted to work with a queer director who could amplify the voices in that community,” said SG Lewis.
The EP was quite natural for the duo given the mutual love and support they have been receiving from their fans. With the idea of ‘thank you for all the support. Here’s more bangers’, Tove Lo said this EP was meant to be casual fun. But then, it’s hard not to give something your all.
