Nilüfer Yanya has announced her forthcoming album, ‘My Method Actor.’ She has also released a new single, ‘Method Actor,’ with an accompanying video. The new album is Yanya’s third, and it’s set to be released on September 13 via Ninja Tune. Wilma Archer, who’s credited for his work with Sudan Archives, MF Doom, and Celeste, produced the album.
The video for ‘Method Actor’ was shot in an old hotel in Benidorm, Spain. It sees Yanya exploring themes of memory and self-identity. Yanya talked about the song, “I was researching method acting – and from what I read, it’s based on finding this one memory in your life, a life-altering, life-changing memory. The reason why some people find method acting traumatic and maybe not safe mentally, is because you’re always going back to that moment.”
‘Method Actor’ is the second single Yanya has released from the forthcoming album. The first was ‘Like I Say (I Runaway),’ which she released in April. Yanya also recently announced a tour of the UK, Europe, and North America that will start in Philadelphia on September 28 and wrap up in Manchester on December 5.
NME gave Yanya’s previous album, ‘Painless,’ a three-star review. The publication wrote, “Even if ‘Painless’ occasionally settles into a consistent, thudding groove at times, when Yanya goes full pelt, she’s at her very best.” Last year, she also collaborated with Bombay Bicycle Club on the song ‘Meditate.
