Katie Boulter, who is the defending champion, has progressed to the semi-finals of the Nottingham Open after a straight-set win over Magdalena Frech. The 27-year-old Briton won the game 6-2 6-4 in 83 minutes with the match being interrupted by rain. Boulter returned after the delay to win the next two games to claim the first set. She then won four games in a row to take control of the second set and eventually serve out for the match. Boulter will play the winner of the all-British quarter-final between Emma Raducanu and Fran Jones, which didn’t start on Friday due to the rain.
Jones, on the other hand, secured a place in the quarter-finals with a three-set win over American Ashlyn Krueger. Play was suspended on Thursday with the match locked at 6-4 4-6 6-5 (30-30) but Jones was able to finish the game the following day. Top seed Ons Jabeur also reached the quarter-finals with a 6-2 6-1 win over Czech Linda Fruhvirtova. Jabeur will take on former world number one Karolina Pliskova in the last eight.
Naomi Osaka, who has won four Grand Slam championships, was beaten in the quarter-finals of the Libema Open by former US Open winner Bianca Andreescu in three sets. The former world number one lost the tie 4-6 6-3 6-7 (3-7) in the Netherlands.
In the Stuttgart Open, Britain’s Jack Draper has progressed to the semi-finals with a battling three-set win over Frances Tiafoe, the defending champion. Draper came from a set down to beat the American 5-7 6-4 7-6 (7-1). Draper was in excellent serving form as he produced a brilliant 31 aces to book a semi-final clash with Brandon Nakashima, the American. Draper missed the whole of the grass-court season last year after suffering a shoulder injury but is now set to enter Wimbledon as the British number one. Cameron Norrie’s loss to Jack Pinnington Jones at the Nottingham Open means Draper will become the leading Briton from Monday
