Liverpool Adult Learning Service (ALS) is holding open days later this month to showcase the courses it will offer from September. Drop-in sessions will be held at four centres across the city where the ALS team will answer questions about courses ranging from English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and IT to beauty, volunteering, sewing, languages, catering, and a new set of programmes for learners seeking early years and school-aged children. These include the Level 1 Award in Preparing to Work in Schools, the Level 1 Caring for Children certificate, the Level 2 Award/Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, the Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching, the Level 2 Diploma in Early Years Practice, the Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Autism, the Level 1 Award in mentoring, and the Level 1 Award in stress awareness.
Many of the courses offered by ALS are free if a learner receives certain benefits, earns less than £31,600 ($40,058) a year, or is taking an English, Maths, or IT programme at the centre. Other courses may be paid for in three instalments. The ALS is supported by Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and trains about 4,500 learners each year. Last year, ALS received an “outstanding” rating for learners’ attitudes and their personal development following a four-day inspection by Ofsted. Kate Bull, Liverpool City Council’s Director of Economic Strategy, Skills, and Sustainability, said the ALS team was looking forward to meeting “potential new learners” at the open days.
“We’re very excited to be offering courses for people who would like to work with children. Our recruitment event this month showed the interest in this area and it enables us to support the national expansion of funded childcare and wraparound childcare,” said Bull. The ALS Open days will be held on Monday, 24 June at the Norris Green Adult Learning Centre, Wednesday, 26 June at the Newsham Adult Learning Centre, Thursday, 27 June at the Park Road Adult Learning Centre, and Friday, 28 June at the Granby Adult Learning Centre
