A childminder has been sentenced to 12 years and seven months in jail for the death of a nine-month-old boy. Karen Foster admitted to shaking and killing Harlow Collinge. Foster was a registered childminder with nine years of experience, and Harlow had been dropped off to her by his mother, Gemma Collinge. The incident occurred on March 1, 2022, and Harlow was taken to the hospital, but he eventually died four days later due to brain injuries.
Foster was due to stand trial at Preston Crown Court for Harlow’s murder, but the prosecution accepted her plea of manslaughter. It was found that her violent shaking caused Harlow’s death after he fell out of his high chair, and Foster called 999 to say that he had stopped breathing. She told a paramedic that Harlow had “suddenly collapsed”.
