A man, aged 46, has been taken into custody as part of the probe against PPE Medpro by the National Crime Agency (NCA). The organization is led by none other than Doug Barrowman, COO of Baroness Michelle Mone. The NCA has initiated a criminal probe into PPE procurement policies, and this man’s arrest is part of that investigation. The procurement of PPEs is suspected of being in violation of the law.
During the global pandemic, the company was awarded government contracts that were worth more than £200m, after it was recommended to officials by Baroness Mone. However, the couple denies any wrongdoing. Furthermore, the company is facing a separate legal problem, as it is being sued by the Department for Health for £122m plus costs for “breach of contract and unjust enrichment”.
The NCA has announced that the man was apprehended from his home in Barnet, North London, on the morning of Wednesday. “The individual was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy and of attempting to pervert the course of justice,” according to the agency.
The investigation into the company continues, and it is unclear what the future holds for the leaders and their enterprise, given the dual controversies they are currently mired in. The details of the case are yet to be ascertained, and more information will be made available as the investigation progresses
