Essex Police are investigating the possibility that convicted murderer Luke D’Wit may have killed his father and grandfather. The killer was sentenced to a minimum of 37 years in prison in March for murdering married couple Stephen and Carol Baxter with the use of fentanyl in West Mersea, Essex. The police are now examining the case of Vernon D’Wit, Luke’s father, who was taking fentanyl before he died at his home in 2021. Officers have stated that they are ready to take action should fresh evidence emerge.
Detectives are trying to ascertain if D’Wit killed anyone else undetected before he was incarcerated. As part of their investigation, they are reassessing how D’Wit’s grandfather perished. D’Wit’s deception was so subtle that detectives are compelled to determine just how many other killings might have evaded them.
At the trial earlier this year, Detective Superintendent Rob Kirby stated that he had “absolutely no doubt” that D’Wit would have gone on to murder others if he hadn’t
