Iggy Pop recently performed with Nick Zinner, Matt Sweeney, The Armed’s Uriah Hackney, Ale Campos of Las Nubes, Joan As Police Woman, Pam Amsterdam, and jazz trombonist Corey D. King at California’s No Values Festival. This marks Iggy Pop’s return to the stage since his 2023 album ‘Every Loser’ tour ended. The band performed classic Stooges songs that were taken out of the archives for the first time in over a decade. Pop was accompanied by an all-star band to perform his set.
The setlist for the performance was impressive, featuring only two of Pop’s own songs: ‘Lust For Life’ and ‘The Passenger.’ The rest of the set list consisted of Stooges classics including ‘1970’ and ‘I Got A Right.’ The previous outing that saw members of The Stooges was in 2009. Further expectations of the live performances were crushed after Ron Asheton, Scott Asheton, and Steve Mackay passed away. Currently, James Williamson and Iggy Pop are the only two members left alive from the original band.
Recently, Pop was in the spotlight, revisiting ‘The Passenger’ on an advert in a collaboration with Siouxsie Sioux for a Magnum ice-cream. Sioux had famously covered Iggy Pop’s 1977 hit ten years after it’s release, adding her own signature spin to the song. When asked about the collaboration, Sioux expressed her love for the song and Pop’s voice, “… to hear my voice with Iggy’s is such a dream.” Pop was equally complimentary and commented on the unique collaboration, saying that Sioux could “sing like a bird. I’ve always thought she was a great lady.”
Iggy Pop’s performance at the No Values Festival captures his authentic punk rock style, full of energy and power. The choice of venue and lineup for the band were perfect, delivering a memorable performance for the fans of Iggy Pop and The Stooges. It has been a decade since Stooges’ classics have been performed, and it has left fans eager for more.
