Yungblud has released a teaser clip of his upcoming single ‘Breakdown’, which is inspired by Britpop and has been described by the musician as reflecting the “hardest year for his mental health”. The song is set to be released in full on June 21. In the preview clip, Yungblud can be heard singing “Don’t forget to put your feet in the grass”, accompanied by strings, a skittering rhythm and an inspiring message about remembering what is real in life.
Yungblud took to social media to reveal that he wrote the song as a poem to himself, stemming from his struggles with mental health. “For as long as I can remember I have felt constantly afraid of how quickly my head can turn dark,” he wrote in the lengthy Instagram caption. The musician went on to encourage others to connect with people and things around them, to ground themselves and exist alongside their insecurities and darkness.
The Britpop-inspired elements of ‘Breakdown’ were first hinted at in an NME interview with Yungblud earlier this year, where he shared details about his upcoming album, saying it is produced in the North and represents positivity, an outlook that can be heard in the new upcoming single.
Yungblud is set to host BludFest in Milton Keynes in August, where he will be joined by Lil Yachty, Soft Play, Nessa Barrett, The Damned, Lola Young and Jazmin Bean on the lineup. The artist has also confirmed that a second stage has been added for the event.
Yungblud’s inspiring message about grounding oneself and remembering what is real in life makes the upcoming single ‘Breakdown’ something to look forward to. The musician has constantly used his platform to raise awareness about mental health and encourage people to connect with others
