Over the weekend, a 20-year-old man fell ill at Manchester nightclub, Hidden, and was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The Greater Manchester Police confirmed that they were called to the venue at approximately 2:30 AM on Saturday after reports of an incident. In a statement to Mixmag, a spokesperson for the GMP said that “a 20-year-old man had become unwell and was transported to hospital. Tragically, despite the best efforts of emergency services, he later passed away.” The cause of death has not yet been confirmed, but enquiries are ongoing.
The man is believed to have been at Hidden for a party by techno promoter, Teletech; Hidden and Teletech both released a joint statement yesterday expressing their “heartfelt sympathies” to the family of the victim and mentioning that they had decided to cancel the event on Sunday to allow their team to evaluate the situation with more care. Hidden also asserted that safety has always been their priority and that they will continue to assist the police with their investigations.
The tragic incident has caused a stir amongst the public regarding the safety and security of nightclubs and their patrons. Manchester’s famed nightlife has always been a drawcard for revelers and club-goers, and many have expressed their shock and sadness over the news. Nevertheless, Hidden and Teletech’s swift statement and actions to cancel the next event have displayed sensitivity and awareness towards the victim and his family.
This tragedy narrows the spotlight on nightclubs, their management, and the responsibility that comes with providing entertainment in a safe and secure environment. It is hoped that this incident will prompt venues to re-evaluate
their safety measures and improve them where possible. The safety and welfare of patrons should always be a top priority, and it is only through such measures that we can ensure that incidents like this do not occur again
