During their headlining set at Governors Ball 2024, The Killers performed a rendition of Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ hit song ‘Maps’. The concert was being held at Flushing Meadows Corona Park when Brandon Flowers and his bandmates performed their stripped-down version of the classic song in front of a thrilled audience. This wasn’t the first time The Killers had paid homage to an NYC band at Gov Ball. At the festival in 2016, they performed ‘Obstacle 1’, a track from the Interpol album ‘Turn On The Bright Lights’.
The Killers are currently preparing for their upcoming ‘Rebel Diamonds’ tour in the UK and Ireland. The six-date concert series will play at London’s O2 Arena as well as venues in Glasgow, Manchester and Dublin. It comes after the band recently played ‘Andy, You’re A Star’ at a surprise intimate gig in New York City, marking the first time the ‘Hot Fuss’ classic has been performed in seven years. It is fitting that the band is playing in the United Kingdom as Brandon Flowers has often drawn inspiration from British bands such as The White Stripes and The Strokes.
In last year’s interview with NME, Flowers shared information about his new album saying: “I’m making a solo record right now! I almost had it wrapped up. The goal has always been to get all four original members to take ownership and be proud of what we’re doing, but it’s so difficult with all four of us living in different cities. It’s not impossible. It’s weird to be talking to you about it, but I’d definitely like to do that.” Twenty years after ‘Hot Fuss’, Flowers said the ambition of the Killers had set them apart from other bands in Las Vegas, creating a legacy that still resonates today.
The band’s headlining set at Reading Festival in 2023 was hailed by NME as a “showstopper of showmanship” and their performance of ‘Glamorous Indie Rock And Roll’ cemented their reputation as an iconic band. In other news, The Killers’ song ‘Mr Brightside’ has become the biggest-selling track ever that hasn’t reached the Official Singles Chart top 10, smashing a huge UK singles record. Despite their successes, Brandon Flowers and his bandmates show no signs of slowing down and continue to create inspiring music that captivates audiences around the world
