On the 50th anniversary of the Lambeth Country Show, an accident occurred at Brockwell Park, leaving four people injured and requiring hospitalization. Officials have stated that a funfair ride at the event may have malfunctioned which resulted in the incident. Lambeth Council has confirmed that emergency services arrived at the scene soon after the incident occurred at around 18:20 BST.
Lambeth Police has guaranteed that no one is trapped on the ride and have cordoned off the area as an investigation is launched into the actual cause of the ride’s malfunction. The funfair has also been closed to visitors. The Health and Safety Executive has been notified and have taken over the investigation. All attractions and rides are being checked for additional safety measures at the show as a precaution.
The current condition of the individuals that sustained injuries, however, remains unknown with an expectation for an assessment of their conditions to come in sooner. Four ambulance crews from the London Ambulance Service was deployed to the scene along with the hazardous area response team, after which an air ambulance was also sent to the scene.
Located in Brockwell, a popular park that lies near Brixton in South London, the Lambeth Country Show is known to be one of the largest free family festivals in the UK attracting thousands of attendees yearly. The show has been closed to visitors while the incident is investigated, and it is unclear if it will resume anytime soon.
