The Princess of Wales has expressed her pride in the Irish Guards while apologising for missing a parade rehearsal. Catherine would normally attend the Colonel’s Review, held ahead of next week’s Trooping the Colour, but is taking a break from her royal obligations after undergoing treatment for cancer. In a letter signed Colonel Catherine, the princess said it was a “great honour” to be the ceremonial leader of the group and that she hoped to “represent you all once again very soon”.

Last March, Catherine revealed she was receiving treatment for cancer following abdominal surgery in January, and a spokesperson for Kensington Palace stated last week that the princess would only return to work when given the all-clear by her medical team. Catherine has not attended any public events since Christmas.

Meanwhile, the Irish Guards posted a video on social media showing her letter being read to members of the regiment who were ” deeply touched” to receive a message from their colonel. They also wished Catherine their very best for her recovery.

The Trooping of the Colour, which has celebrated the King’s birthday for over 260 years, is due to take place on 15 June. The Royal Family traditionally gathers on the Buckingham Palace balcony as the event features stunning military pageantry.
