Jodie Harsh, the DJ and producer, has announced that she will publish her debut book, entitled “You Had To Be There,” which depicts her journey through London’s club scene. The memoir chronicles Jodie’s pivotal moments in life, including the day she first arrived in the capital when she was 15 years old. From there, Jodie takes the reader through her most memorable and influential nights out, documenting parties at her famous friends’ houses, as well as clubs like The Cross, Mahiki, Boombox, and The End.
Aside from the formative days of her career DJing, which includes the birth of her blonde beehive, the book also provides an insight into how the city evolved after the financial crisis of 2008. According to Jodie, she barely slept throughout that decade, frantically moving from club to club, and her decadence almost destroyed her. Despite this, she kept on dancing. After finishing her book, Jodie said, “I’ve finally written the book I have always wanted to read, and I can’t wait to introduce you to the characters, and the places, that made it all so wild.”
In addition to the release of her book, Jodie is hosting her weekly queer-centred event, Feel It, at OMEARA. Her guests include acts like Fatboy Slim, The Blessed Madonna, Confidence Man, salute, and more. In 2021, she was featured in a Google documentary, A Search Story, which followed her involvement in the dance music scene from the 2000s. The documentary included her speaking on subjects of self-expression and the fluidity of the LGBTQ+ nightlife scene.
Jodie Harsh’s You Had To Be There will be available in Autumn 2025 via Faber and is open to pre-order. The publication marks the latest achievement in Harsh’s fast-growing career
