Square Enix has announced that both Octopath Traveler games are now available on all consoles, PC, and Xbox Game Pass. The original game was previously only available on Nintendo Switch and Xbox, while the sequel, Octopath Traveler 2, was only playable on Switch and PlayStation. In a surprise update, Square Enix has made Octopath Traveler 2 available for Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One users immediately, while the original has been returned to PS4 and PS5. PC players have always had access to both titles.

Since its launch in 2018, the Octopath Traveler series has sold over four million copies worldwide, popularizing the unique HD-2D art style. Both games are standalone experiences set in different worlds with eight distinct protagonists, each with their own stories to explore and Path Actions to use. Players will embark on a grand adventure and steer their journey, depending on whom they choose to play as.

To celebrate the launch, Octopath Traveler 2 has received a free update that introduces a new Extra Battle mode to the game, allowing players to test their skills against newly added opponents, including the main characters from the original game. In a four-star review, NME wrote that Octopath Traveler 2 builds on the first game’s foundations to offer a richer, more fulfilling adventure.
