A man from Waltham Abbey, Essex has been found guilty of headbutting former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane after Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Manchester United last September. Scott Law, 43, was accused of common assault during the incident at the Emirates Stadium in north London while Keane was working for Sky Sports. During his trial, Keane stated he “absolutely” did not expect to be headbutted.

Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court heard that Law was sitting behind Keane during the match and had exchanged friendly banter with him throughout the game before the assault occurred. Law approached Keane after the match and tried to shake his hand, but when Keane declined, he headbutted him.

Following the verdict, Law was sentenced to four months in prison, suspended for 12 months, and ordered to pay £500 in compensation to Keane. The judge called the attack “unprovoked” and said it had been committed against a “public figure doing his job”.
