Here’s why Jeremy Renner refused to star in a third ‘Mission: Impossible’ movie

Jeremy Renner has revealed that he turned down an offer to reprise his role as William Brandt in Mission: Impossible – Fallout, which was released in 2018. In an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Renner disclosed that he was told he would shoot for only one week, during which his character would be killed off. Renner stated, “No, you don’t get to do that. You’re not going to drag me over there and just kill my character. If you’re going to do this and you’re going to use my character, you’re going to do it right.” The actor played William Brandt in two of the Tom Cruise-led blockbuster action films: Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol in 2011 and Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation in 2015.

Renner explained that he wanted to focus on being a hands-on father to his daughter, Ava, which was why he declined to return to the franchise following Rogue Nation.

Renner also spoke about his recent involvement in the Knives Out franchise in another recent interview. Renner is the newest addition to the cast of Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery starring alongside Glenn Close, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Josh O’Connor, and Caile Spaeny. The new instalment of the Knives Out series is set to premiere in 2025, with Daniel Craig reappearing as the eccentric detective Benoit Blanc.

Earlier this year, Renner survived a freak snowplow accident, and after undergoing several surgeries to deal with his injuries, he was left in critical condition. Despite the traumatic experience, he still looks forward to future opportunities in the film industry. Renner proclaims that he would “jump” at the chance to return to the Mission: Impossible series, particularly as Brandt
