Music producer and audio engineer Daddy Kev has launched a new tool called musiclawyer.ai to assist independent artists in analyzing issues with royalty and recording contracts. The AI tool uses two options for analysis, ChatGPT and Gemini, to spot errors and inconsistencies in contracts. Uploaded documents are parsed and pulled for information by the tool which is available in languages, including English, Japanese, Spanish, French, and simplified Chinese. The app can scan through long contracts, although ChatGPT might miss some information, but the Gemini option can help out in these instances.
According to Daddy Kev, musiclawyer.ai is in beta mode and users testing the app might encounter some bugs. Several artists, including Halogenix, Telefon Tel Aviv, and Nightmares On Wax, have already supported the app. The app can also draft basic contracts such as split sheets and co-production agreements and can audit royalty statements.
As told by Moo, who created the app, musiclawyer.ai utilizes AI to assess music contracts and audit royalty statements and is available for independent artists for free. The app is still in beta mode, and since it is new, there will be unpolished aspects. But, Moo intends to fix most of that in the next two months of use.
Music contracts uploaded by users are analyzed by the app to find inconsistencies or mistakes, which it can accurately detect. Moo reiterated that it is just a tool to give insight and clarification and not a substitute for the advice of a legal practitioner. Users who require more trusted assurance can consult a legal attorney to interpret the AI analysis.
In the future, the tool will allow users to analyze royalty audit statements from the label to the distributor. Moo said that most times, these statements are flawed. Musiclawyer.ai has leveraged AI to help independent artists make informed decisions, especially regarding music contracts and royalties
