Geoff Keighley tempers expectations ahead of Summer Game Fest

Summer Game Fest, the E3 replacement show, won’t have many upcoming game teasers, according to host and creator Geoff Keighley. In a recent Twitch Q&A, Keighley emphasised that the show would focus on existing games with new updates, DLC, or more information on previously announced titles, instead of new game announcements. However, he did note that it would still be a “lighter” year, not a quiet one, and the show would last around two hours.

As many as 8,800 people were laid off from the video game industry in 2024 alone, according to Kotaku. Some gamers speculated on social media that the industry’s recent layoffs and studio closures played a significant role in the dearth of new game announcements.
