Could The Who ever do an avatar show? Roger Daltrey responds

Roger Daltrey has spoken about the possibility of a virtual tour or show from legendary rock band The Who. Earlier this year, guitarist Pete Townshend mentioned the idea during an interview with the New York Times, saying he wanted the band to “play every territory in the world” before retiring. However, Townshend also made it clear that a digital version of The Who wouldn’t be the same as seeing them perform live.

When asked about the idea of a virtual tour or show, Daltrey seemed unenthusiastic. “I’ve never thought about it. I wouldn’t want to go and see it,” he said. Daltrey also joked about the prospect of doing ABBA covers, in reference to the ABBA Voyage spectacle that has been running in London.

It’s worth noting that other legendary bands have already explored the idea of virtual performances. For example, KISS announced that they would continue in the future as virtual avatars, becoming the first US group to do so. Meanwhile, Noel Gallagher has said he would be up for an Oasis hologram show after watching the ABBA Voyage concert.

Daltrey is due to embark on a semi-acoustic solo tour of North America next month, while The Who played two orchestral shows at London’s Royal Albert Hall in March as part of this year’s Teenage Cancer Trust gig series. It remains to be seen whether a virtual tour or show from The Who will ever actually materialize
