Jeff Tweedy, frontman of the American band Wilco, recently joined Bleachers on stage in Chicago to perform a cover of Lana Del Rey’s song ‘Margaret’. Bleachers, fronted by Jack Antonoff, had a special guest up their sleeve for their May 25th concert in the city and ended up performing a cover of Del Rey’s tune, with Tweedy joining in. ‘Margaret’ pays tribute to Antonoff and his wife Margaret Qualley, and can be found on Del Rey’s 2018 album ‘Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd.’
Wilco themselves have just announced the upcoming release of their EP ‘Hot Sun Cool Shroud’ which is set to be released later this month, on June 28th via dBpm Records. The EP will coincide with Wilco’s Solid Sound Festival, which begins on June 28th and ends on June 30th at the MASS MoCA in North Adams, Massachusetts. Tweedy and the band promise an EP with a summertime-after-dark kind of feeling, incorporating more aggressive and angular tracks than they have put out before and will finish with a cooling breeze.
NME recently spoke to Del Rey at the Ivor Novello Academy Awards, where she talked about her feelings towards her critics in the music industry. She says there might’ve been a sense of vindication three years ago but now it’s just playful. She adds that if you hang in long enough, “it just feels easy”, and that there’s no need for vindication or anything of the sort – she’s just happy to be here.
