ARC Music Festival and House Music 40 have joined forces for a pop-up event celebrating 40 years of house music at Daley Hall in Chicago on May 29. The event is part of a series of Chicago-wide festivities honoring the genre. The celebration will feature performances by DJ Heather, Derrick Carter, and other Chicago natives.

House Music 40 is an Illinois-based non-profit organization that seeks to elevate the ongoing legacy of house music and offer assistance to pioneers of the genre experiencing health issues and other difficulties. “I am thrilled to mark this momentous occasion with ARC Music Festival, Chicago’s flagship house and techno festival,” said Vince Lawrence, the founder of House Music 40. “They have provided a wonderful platform for DJs and music lovers throughout the years.”

Chicago house is a worldwide movement where fans can show love and appreciation for many original pioneers and innovators, said ARC Music Festival’s co-founder. “It’s important for us as fans to give back,” he added. The “beginning” of house music is widely debated. Nonetheless, this event commemorates 1984 as the year house music began to arise due to the success of hit singles, such as ‘On and On’ by Jesse Saunders, and ‘Your Love’ by Frankie Knuckles.
