After months of restoration work, the Croxteth Park Miniature Railway is set to reopen to the public on June 9th. Spearheaded by local resident Kevin Brown, the restoration has been a true community endeavor, with the Liverpool City Council and Croxteth Hall and Park and a dedicated team of volunteers all contributing to the project’s success. To celebrate the reopening, the railway will host a special launch party, which will reveal the winning name chosen for the new engine, with passenger rides beginning later in the day.
The miniature railway was originally built in 1981 and remained operational until 2009. Its newly restored route, complete with operational diesel and steam engines for special events, runs through the scenic grounds of Croxteth Park, traversing a historic tunnel and stopping at Croxteth Hall Halt Station before returning to the station.
Throughout the restoration process, Brown and his team of volunteers worked tirelessly to restore, clear, and unearth the original track, making sure that the railway is as close to its original form as possible. This dedication to preserving the history of this beloved icon has been a true testament to the community spirit of the people of Croxteth.
Visitors are encouraged to book in advance to avoid potential long queues, and the boarding location is at the path leading to Croxteth Hall, after the bridge. Brown expressed his pride at the reopening of the railway and the culmination of the hard work of everyone involved. The railway will operate throughout June, with several sessions planned to celebrate its long-awaited and highly anticipated return to service
