Glen Powell recently recounted a story in which Tom Cruise pranked him by pretending to lose control of a helicopter they were riding in. In an interview with GQ Magazine, Powell shared how he and Cruise became good friends during the filming of Top Gun: Maverick and that Cruise owned a helicopter and flew “actual jets”. Despite Powell being a licensed pilot, he highlighted that compared to Cruise, he’s only flown friends cross-country to a number of US cities.

Powell was starstruck by Cruise throughout the production of Top Gun: Maverick. He mentioned that Cruise knew every department and was able to clearly interface with everyone and communicate his vision with friendliness and respect. Powell found that Cruise and him bonded over their shared love of film and became “kindred spirits”.

The 35-year-old actor starred in Top Gun: Maverick as Lt. Jake “Hangman” Seresin, a young and brash pilot who eventually grows to respect Cruise’s Cpt. Pete “Maverick” Mitchell. Powell’s latest star vehicle is Hit Man, an action-comedy set to release on Netflix next Friday (June 7).

Powell also recounted another story from his past. Earlier this week, he revealed that his first viewing of Hidden Figures, in which he appeared as a supporting actor, resulted in him “puking” over fears that he “ruined” the film. This shows how invested Powell is in the film industry and how passionate he is about his craft
