'Sextortion guides' for sale on social media, BBC finds

Social media is being used by criminals to provide guides on how to commit the crime of sextortion, according to the BBC. These guides include information on how to impersonate young women online and deceive individuals into sharing sexually explicit content before blackmailing them. The National Crime Agency has issued a warning to schools across the UK, stating that children are increasingly being targeted by gangs in West Africa, mostly from Nigeria. Intelligence experts are concerned about the dangers of what they call a “massive threat” to young people who are prime targets for unscrupulous Internet scammers.
 
Users of social media have been targeted by sextortion gangs for years, with teenagers now especially vulnerable.
