Becky Hill has joined forces with Self Esteem for the release of her powerful new single, ‘True Colours.’ The track will be the opening song on Hill’s upcoming ‘Believe Me Now?’ album, which is set for release on May 31. Hill approached Self Esteem to work on ‘True Colours’ due to shared beliefs and agendas.
The song’s lyrics explore the experience of a sexual assault by someone you trust and the lack of support from your friends. Hill has channelled her experience into creating an uplifting anthem that promotes empowerment, defiance, and self-care. She hopes it will encourage other women to speak out against sexual assault.
In a statement, Hill said, “I didn’t want it to be emotional, and I didn’t want it to be angry – I’ve had years of therapy to examine that anger and not allow it to inform me, who I am.” Self Esteem shared Hill’s sentiments and claimed it an honour to be collaborating on such an essential track.
The track opens Hill’s second studio album, which includes 14 other songs. ‘Believe Me Now?’ aims to secure Hill’s position as a global artist and not a ‘happy accident.’ Her album reflects her desire to be who she is and to embrace it rather than downplay herself or her abilities.
