The Manchester post-punk band, The Chameleons, have united after a 23-year hiatus to release their latest EP titled ‘Where Are You’. The EP contains three tracks titled ‘Where Are You’, ‘Endlessly Falling’, and ‘Forever’. The EP release follows their first live album in three decades, ‘Edge Sessions (Live From The Edge)’, launched to an exclusive crowd in 2022. The album’s launch reunited lead singer/bassist Mark Burgess with guitarist Reg Smithies, together with guitarist Chris Oliver and drummer Stephen Rice. The band has also completed a series of tours, including appearing as the opening slot on stage for LA goth band She Wants Revenge.
“This is exciting, to finally be putting out fresh Chameleons material for the first time in over twenty years, although initially I found it quite daunting,” were Burgess’ words on the release. The question about the possibility of further music from the band has been frequently asked of him by fans attending shows. Reacting to the incredible demand, Burgess said, “a great many of whom weren’t even born when those records were originally made but nevertheless were excited and inspired by the music enough to catch multiple shows on multiple tours.”
The new EP will give fans the first taste of The Chameleons’ upcoming album ‘Arctic Moon’, set to be released later this year by Metropolis Records. It will be the first album released by the band without founding drummer John Lever, who passed away in 2017, and guitarist Dave Fielding, who originally parted with the band in 1987.
In addition, The Chameleons have announced plans to perform their classic 1986 album ‘Strange Times’ in full in North America. Full US and UK dates are provided, where tickets for the US dates may be purchased here and the UK ones here. The tour will commence in San Diego on May 30th, 2024
