Bournemouth stabbing: Police give reassurances following beach murder

Authorities are investigating the murder of a woman who was fatally stabbed on Durley Chine Beach in Bournemouth. The tragedy, which took place shortly before midnight on Friday, also left another woman, aged 38, seriously injured. A 17-year-old boy from Lancashire has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody. Dorset Police have temporarily closed the beach while they carry out their investigation.

Police have sought to reassure the local community and visitors that they are working diligently to investigate this “horrendous incident” and are exploring all available leads to establish the motives for this crime. Det Supt Richard Dixey has asked people not to speculate about the possible circumstances or the cause of the crime, saying that it is too early in the police investigation to draw conclusions. He has urged anyone with information to come forward and added that there would be an enhanced police presence in the area.

People have been advised to stay away from the beach, which has been cordoned off, as the investigation continues. The cordon is in place between Bournemouth Pier and the western side of Alum Chine, and it is expected to remain in place for some time. Community Safety Officers will be patrolling the area over the Bank Holiday weekend to ensure that people feel safe.

Local authorities and the police have called on the public to come forward with any information they may have about the incident. An online portal has been set up for people to submit details. The MP for Bournemouth West, Sir Conor Burns, has expressed his condolences and called the incident a “tragic death”, adding that, thankfully, such incidents are still rare in the locality
