British singer Ella Henderson invited Natasha Bedingfield on stage during her set at Radio One’s Big Weekend in Stockwood Park, Luton on May 24. The two singers performed Bedingfield’s hit “Unwritten” before launching into their duet of “Alibi”. Henderson had released the track with Rudimental but felt it needed a female empowerment angle, hence her invitation to Bedingfield. Before the performance, Henderson talked about what the song meant to her, stating that it was about grit and revenge.
After the performance, Henderson expressed her love for Bedingfield, adding that the Unwritten album was one of the first that she ever sang in her bedroom with a hairbrush. Bedingfield has been in the news recently for announcing a show at Koko in London and a vinyl re-release of “Unwritten” to commemorate the album’s 20th anniversary.
Bedingfield’s debut album was released in 2004 and entered the charts at Number One. It featured a collection of hits like “These Words,” “Single,” “Wild Horses,” and “I Bruise Easily,” along with “Unwritten.” The latter enjoyed a resurgence after appearing in the romantic comedy film Anyone But You, which stars Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell. Bedingfield commented on the track’s resurgence, stating that she loves the way the song was used in such a special way that makes people feel joyful.
BBC Radio One’s Big Weekend featured performances from artists such as Coldplay, London Grammar, AJ Tracey, and Charli XCX, among many others. The event ran from May 28 to May 31, 2021
