A care home in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire has teamed up with Lottie, a care home marketplace, to provide its senior residents with a new form of therapy – Taylor Swift’s music. Dubbed the “Senior Swifties”, the residents have embraced the American singer’s work as part of their daily lives. The project was designed to challenge preconceptions of care homes, according to Lottie’s founder, Chris Donnelly. “Care homes can be the start of a new and fulfilling chapter in life,” he told ITV News.
Residents at Bartlett’s Care Home have been photographed posing as Taylor Swift in a range of the singer’s album covers, an activity that has brought immense joy and inspiration. Carol, an 80-year-old resident, said she wished she could wear outfits like those of Taylor Swift daily. Elizabeth, a 91-year-old resident, poses as Swift in her album “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” and looks forward to sending photos to family members in Australia.
Taylor Swift’s music was selected for the project due to the “pitch perfect average tempo”, which has been proven to spark memories of joy and happiness in those with dementia, according to Lottie. Kavita Salhotra, People Innovation Manager at Bartlett’s Care Home, believes the joy sparked by Swift’s music is a testament to the care home’s dedication to creating a supportive and lively community.
Taylor Swift is set to bring her “The Eras Tour” to the UK next month.
