Marvel fans can look forward to seeing Paul Bettany return to screens as Vision in a new Disney+ series set to be released in 2026. The as-yet-untitled project will be helmed by showrunner Terry Matalas, who also served as executive producer of recent seasons of Star Trek: Picard. Matalas was brought in by Marvel after executives were reportedly impressed with his leadership of the Star Trek: Picard team. Bettany last appeared as Vision in the 2021 Disney+ series WandaVision, where his character was revived and transformed into White Vision.
It is interesting to note that Bettany’s contract with Marvel had expired in 2021, leading to speculation about his future involvement with the franchise. Bettany himself hinted at the possibility of a return, given that White Vision was already part of the storyline. However, it was not until the present announcement that Marvel fans could be certain of Bettany’s return.
The new Disney+ series is not the only MCU spinoff in the pipeline. Vision will also take center stage in a series being developed by WandaVision creator Jac Schaeffer, who is currently working on the upcoming Agatha All Along series. Disney CEO Bob Iger has also recently announced that fewer new movies will be released under the MCU franchise in the future, with a greater focus on TV series.
Fans can catch the first two episodes of Agatha All Along from September 18 onwards on Disney+, with subsequent episodes being released on a weekly basis until the season finale on November 6. The only new MCU film in 2024 will be Deadpool & Wolverine, which is set to be released on July 26. Rumors of a possible Taylor Swift appearance have been circulating, though Ryan Reynolds has kept fans guessing, stating that “anything can happen” and that surprises are “the essence of Deadpool.”
