During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Billie Eilish spoke about her artistic process and the creation of the artwork for her album, ‘Hit Me Hard And Soft’. She discussed the cover art, where she is seen sinking in water with an open white door above her, revealing that she had to be fully dressed in layers of clothing with a weight strapped to her to keep her down in a 10 foot tub of water to get the shot. Eilish said, “I need to suffer.” She further explained that she thinks about the visual before thinking about how it’s going to make her feel, adding, “I didn’t have a nose plug so I was basically waterboarding myself for like six hours.”
Colbert then asked what the image on the album cover meant to her, to which Eilish responded that a lot of the inspiration for the album visuals were “optical illusions type things, like things that make you question it or think about it for longer. I wanted it to make you think.” Later, Eilish performed her song ‘Lunch’ on the show, its first televised performance.
In other news, Eilish recently performed her new song ‘The Greatest’ for the first time and revealed that she cried after the performance. On Radio 1’s Jack Saunders show, she stated, “I love that song so much. That song is really, really special to me. I literally performed it the other day and cried after.” Eilish’s album ‘Hit Me Hard And Soft’ received praise for its unique, personal nature and will be supported by a 2024-25 world tour.
