Although John finished his final show of ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road’ in Stockholm last year and has hinted at retiring from performing, he has instead chosen to focus on his music. Taupin elaborated on the album, stating: “Elton and I have an album coming out very soon, but I daren’t say anything about it because I’m under strict orders to keep schtum. It’s all done and recorded.” According to Taupin, the album will be surprising and exciting to listeners, and it will feature contemporary sounds.
In a conversation with NME, Elton John expressed his thoughts on what the future holds for him. Although he stated he’s finished with performing and wants to spend more time with his family, he intends to continue creating records and his radio show. He declared he’s not interested in listening to his old records but longs to hear something new. In October 2020, he released “Regimental Sgt. Zippo,” a title track from the album, which was supposed to be his debut album. He also released another album, ‘The Lockdown Sessions,’ in 2021, which had covers of different artists and received a four-star rating in NME’s review.
