Liverpool, known for its rich music culture, is set to welcome Taylor Swift and her fans for three days of sold-out shows in June. This will transform the city into “Taylor Town,” including a trail of art installations inspired by her 11 albums. Liverpool ONE, Royal Albert Dock Liverpool and the Metquarter will each feature an artwork representing a different album, such as a moss-covered grand piano for her most recent album, evermore, and giant hearts for Lover. Fans will also be able to take part in Swif-tee Transformation, origami sessions and cupcake decorating at Liverpool Loves Taylor (Craft Version).

An academic conference, Tay Day, organised by the University of Liverpool, will also take place to “debate and deconstruct” Taylor Swift’s work. The symposium, described as an opportunity for fans, students and academics to engage with the cultural phenomenon that is Taylor Swift, will explore topics such as Swift’s place in feminism. Tay Day features a combination of academic speakers from across Europe and a session of Critical Karaoke, where researchers will perform one-song essays to their chosen Swift track.

The Eras tour, part of Swift’s global record-breaking tour, will kick off its UK leg in Edinburgh on 7 June before heading to Liverpool’s Anfield Stadium on 13 June. Since the announcement of the tour, Liverpool City Council has been tracking the economic impact on its host cities, noting that “wherever she goes, an entourage of adoring fans follow.” According to the Barclays Swiftonomics report published last week, the UK leg of the tour is expected to provide a £997m boost to the UK economy.

Liverpool solidified its reputation for music culture when it hosted Eurovision in 2023. With the upcoming Taylor Swift shows and the city-wide celebration from a team that put together Eurovision, Liverpool is set to take its celebration of music to the next level. Council members aim for the events and related tourism to support the local economy and encourage future investment in the city.

In summary, Taylor Swift’s visit to Liverpool for her sold-out shows in June has inspired a city-wide celebration called “Taylor Town.” The celebration includes a trail of art installations inspired by her albums, a Swift-themed craft workshop, and an academic conference called Tay Day. The Eras tour is expected to provide a nearly £1bn boost to the UK economy. Liverpool City Council anticipates it will bring tourism and investment to the city
